Short Description

Affirmative action is adopted to provide opportunities to a class of qualified individuals who have either historically or have actually been denied those opportunities. Also it is used to prevent the recurrence of discrimination in the future. Affirmative action does not mean quotas, reverse discrimination, or the hiring of unqualified women and minorities. It does permit taking positive steps to end discrimination, to prevent its recurrence, and to open up opportunities too long denied to qualified women and minorities.
